Tampa, Florida -- A new attraction is coming to Ybor City and officials are hoping it strikes a chord with visitors. Next Thursday, ten pianos will be placed at various locations around Ybor City and the public is encouraged to pull up a chair and start playing.
"Up and down the streets of Ybor City you're going to hear music," said Carrie West, the president of the GaYBOR District Coalition.
The GaYBOR District Coalition, which came up with the idea for the exhibit after hearing about similar displays in other countries, is also having local artists paint the pianos. West says it makes for an interactive public art exhibit that should be exciting.
"Some of them (pianos) are over the top, as you might have seen, and some of them are just true and beautiful," West said.
"Pianos in Ybor" runs through January 9th. Once the exhibit is over, the pianos will be auctioned off, with the proceeds going to charity.
West says they paid less than $3,000 of all ten of the used pianos.
