Ringling College graduates' film advances to Oscar shortlist

The animated short film has more than 31 million views on YouTube.
The short film “In a Heartbeat,” released Monday, shares a sweet love story of two young boys.

An animated short film created by two Ringling College of Art and Design graduates moved a step closer to an Oscar nomination on Monday.

The short film "In a Heartbeat" is directed by Esteban Bravo and Beth David. It is among 10 animated short films that will compete for an Oscar nomination.

Short Films and Feature Animation Branch members will select five nominees among the 10 titles eligible for Best Animated Short Film. Nominations for the 90th Academy Awards will be announced on Jan. 23, 2018.

Bravo and David produced the film while at Ringling College.

The film's story focuses on Sherwin, a closeted boy who "runs the risk of being outed by his own heart after it pops out of his chest to chase down the boy of his dreams," according to the film's plot description.

"In a Heartbeat" has more than 31 million views on YouTube as of Tuesday morning.
