Central High School in Brooksville has been targeted by bomb threats.

Hernando County deputies say they have arrested a 17-year-old girl for making multiple bomb threats against Central High School.

The school received six bomb threats this week, leading to many students staying home and an increased law enforcement presence on the campus.

The suspect, whose name we are withholding because of her age, was arrested on six counts of False Report of a Bomb, six counts Unlawful Use of a Two-Way Communications Device, five counts of Misuse of E-911 and six counts of Disruption of a School Function.

Sheriff Al Nienhuis said the suspect is a student at the school, and he will talk to the state attorney's office about having her charged as an adult.

He said the impact of the threats "is astronomical, to say the least."

He said each day, 11 to 37 sheriff's personnel were investigating the threats at the school, and that didn't include other agencies, such as the Florida Highway Patrol.

Superintendent Dr. Lori Romano thanked the sheriff and law enforcement "who worked relentlessly, tirelessly" to end the threats.

"Fear has led the day," she said, "but now we end this terrible week, and it's time that we move forward."
