The suspected serial robber known as the "Shaky Bandit" because of the way his hands trembled while holding up banks may now quiver in a jail cell.
The FBI linked Brandon Venditti, 22, to as many as 11 bank robberies in Broward, Palm Beach and Martin counties over the last three weeks. On Tuesday federal authorities say he hit a bank in Collier County — and was caught.
Venditti, of Weston, now faces federal bank robbery charges. He is accused of robbing a Wells Fargo at 12604 E. U.S. 41 on Tuesday afternoon.
Collier County sheriff's deputies, Florida Highway Patrol troopers and FBI agents found a car that was identified as a possible getaway vehicle used during the robbery. The driver of the vehicle refused to pull over for authorities and eventually crashed around mile marker 91 on Interstate 75, according to Special Agent Michael Leverock, of the FBI Miami Field Office.
Venditti surrendered after the car crashed, and another person in the car was also arrested.
No one was hurt during the chase or subsequent arrests.
His first appearance in federal court is scheduled to take place Wednesday in Fort Myers, according to FBI Miami.
The robberies are being investigated by the FBI's South Florida Violent Crimes Task Force, and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with any information regarding this investigation is urged to call the FBI at 754-703-2000 or Crimestoppers.
