SARASOTA, Fla. -- The controversy whether autism is connected to the MMR vaccines comes to a Bay Area theater.

The documentary “Vaxxed: From Cover up to Catastrophe” will air at the Regal Hollywood 20 theaters in Downtown Sarasota from June 3rd - June 9th.

The owner of 1-800-Ask-Gary Gary Kompothecras lives in Sarasota and is among those who paid to have the movie by Cinema Libre Studios play in Sarasota. Kompthecras says the movie may stay in the area longer. Kompothecras has two autistic children. He shares his reason for bringing the documentary in a statement later in this article.

The movie’s narrator is Dr. Andrew Wakefield. His 1998 research paper claiming autism is connected to vaccines was discredited. The UK pulled his medical license as a result of its investigation into Wakefield’s study.

Still, many parents believe autism and vaccines are related, and Wakefield does too. He says the CDC has covered up the truth.

“This is an insider word from a senior scientist from inside the Center for Disease Control coming forward saying himself they have committed fraud, lied and deceived the American people about the potential negative effects of the vaccine. They have put millions of children in harm’s way,” Wakefield tells 10News WTSP from his office in Boston.

The Center for Disease Control, American Academy of Pediatrics and the World Health Organization say there’s no scientific evidence supporting Wakefield’s claim according to Chelsea Arnold, ARNP with the Fl. Dept. of Health Sarasota County.

Arnold says, “I tell parents with that concern there’s absolutely no research regarding a connection between autism and vaccinations.”

Arnold says there are more than 2 dozen studies showing no correlation between vaccines and autism.

“I want parents to know getting your child vaccinated is extremely important. You are not only protecting your child you are protecting yourself you are protecting those in the community around you. By deciding not to vaccinate you are putting yourself at risk, your child and everyone else,” says Arnold.

The Sarasota Health Department says other possible causes being researched include genetics, the parents’ age, close pregnancies, premature births and abnormal brain growth.

According to the CDC, 1 in 68 children have been diagnosed with some type of autism.

Wakefield adds more studies should have been done years ago. He says, “For 14 years, they had this information. They could have done further studies, they could have delayed the MMR for a time when it could have been safer. They did none of these things. They committed fraud. The American public, the taxpayers, and their children need to be protected from this kind of fraud which puts the interest of policy and those of the pharmaceutical industry before those of the citizens they are sworn to protect.”

The documentary was accepted and then pulled from the Tribeca Film Festival this year.

Kompthecras sent this statement to 10News WTSP explaining why he wanted to bring the documentary “Vaxxed: From Cover up to Conspiracy” to Sarasota.

Kompthecras shares his personal story:

As the father of 6 children. Out of the three oldest ages 21/20/18 all were born normal and developing normally. At about 15 to 20 months two out of three regress in speech and eye contact after the series of vaccines.

After years of research the only conclusion I could reach was it was the vaccines. So much so that I decided to have more children with my wife as we needed to have someone take care of the two with autism after our deaths in case the normal one didn't or couldn't do it.

We had triplets and didn't vaccinate them. All are extremely healthy and are almost 5 and speak 3 languages.

The only thing the above shows is that I was so convinced it was the vaccines that I wasn't worried that I would have another one.

So the quick answer is. That i asked a friend to see if they would play vaxxed at the regal Hollywood twenty theater He asked and they said they would play it in Sarasota Orlando and Jacksonville Again I didn't pay a penny to anyone to do this I feel it is important for people to be informed about the risks and benefits of vaccines and what's in them.

Also the fact is there has never been a study of vaccinated vs unvaccinated children in the United States The CDC admits this. They also admit there is an autism epidemic but it isn't the vaccines. They point to a 2004 study to prove it.

The main author of the study couldn't live with himself any longer and contacted dr Brian Hooker Ph.D. And told him that they omitted data that would have proved the MMR vaccine and autism link.

Most people have just recently heard of autism. Maybe for 20 years now. That because it was a very rare event now it's everywhere because since the government gave immunity to the pharmaceutical companies for vaccine injury in 1986. The vaccine schedule has exploded and so has autism. We use to give 6 or 7 vaccines in the schedule. Now it's over 70! And they have never been tested in combination

It's not the pediatricians fault in one way because they are only listening to the CDC. But there are pediatricians that are starting to question why so many and why is this autism thing happening.

I could go on and on about why this is happening but please watch the documentary and keep an open mind.

Remember when they said smoking was good for you or when they gave thalidomide to pregnant women.
