Search ongoing for wanted driver in deadly hit-and-run crash in Tampa

The collision caused a truck to overturn, throwing two people from it. One person died at the scene while another received critical injuries, authorities say.
A car crashed into the back of a pick-up truck, causing it to overturn, on U.S. 301 at Harney Road in Tampa. One person is dead and another person critically hurt.

TAMPA, Fla. -- The search is on for a driver in a deadly hit-and-run crash in northeast Tampa.

A reckless driver heading north on U.S. 301 crashed into the back of a pick-up truck near Harney Road just after 10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The collision caused the truck to overturn, throwing two people from it. One person, now identified as 57-year-old Manuel Patino-Villa, died at the scene.

A 1-year-old girl and 13-year-old boy were also in the truck when it flipped and were treated for their injuries at Tampa General Hospital.

The condition of the passengers remains unknown at this time.

The driver believed to have caused the crash ran off and went into a white Nissan passenger vehicle which was driven by a Hispanic female, according to the FHP. A Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office helicopter was in the air to assist authorities in finding the person responsible Sunday afternoon.

It's believed the person is a black male who was wearing red, black, and white clothing, the highway patrol says. He might have been picked up by a Hispanic female in a white passenger car.

U.S. 301 was closed in the area and the investigation is ongoing. FHP is scheduled to hold a press conference at 10 a.m. Monday in regards to the investigation. The parents of the hit-and-run victim are slated to speak.
