With cold weather coming, shelters opening up

People can get out of the cold in Sarasota and Pasco Counties.

TAMPA -- With plunging temperatures on the way, several shelters will open up for people who need to get out of the cold.

In Sarasota County, two shelters will be open today and tomorrow. The Salvation Army Center of Hope at 1400 10th Street in Sarasota will open today. Intake is expected to begin at around 6:30pm. The Grace United Methodist Church on 400 E. Field Avenue in Venice will also open at 5pm.

In west Pasco County, people can get out of the cold at Joining Hands Mission on 3333 U.S. Highway 19 N, Ste.1 in Holiday. On the east side of the county, they can go to Restored Hope before 6pm Sunday. Call (352) 437-4815.

Samaritan Project of Zephyrhills will direct people to shelters before 9pm by calling (813) 810-8670.

Cold weather shelters in Pasco County will close Monday at 7am.
