Tampa last in household income among top metro areas

Feeling a little short of cash today? There's a reason for it: The Tampa area ranks last in median household income among the Top 25 metro areas -- the only one under $50,000.

How bad was the report: Florida's top three metro areas -- Tampa Bay, Orlando, Miami -- ranked below Detroit. Tampa Bay's median household income was set at $48,911, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Tampa Bay, Orlando and Miami rank 25th, 24th and 23rd in income among the top 25 U.S. metro areas.

The No. 1 area? Washington, D.C., with $93,294.

What is median household income? It is defined as the point at which half the households in each metro area have income above that point.
