Tampa, Florida - A 16-year-old is now charged, as an adult, with first degree murder.
Amer Ali Ejak appeared by video from Falkenburg Road Jail in a Hillsborough County courtroom. Ejak listened as Judge Walter Heinrich told him he would "be treated as an adult from this point forward."
Ejak was indicted by a grand jury for allegedly hitting 34-year-old Thomas Johannesen in the head with a whiskey bottle, then placing a plastic bag over Johannesen's head smothering him.
The crime came unraveled, police say, when Ejak and co-defendant Christopher Cox, 22, asked several friends if they would like to see a dead body. One of those friends called police.
Deputies found the body of Johannesen in a closet of his Oak Ramble apartment.
Ejak is being held without bond. His next court hearing is set for October 1st.
