Lakeland, Florida -- Detectives in Polk County say they arrested 21 men and women on Thursday in an operation that focused on street prostitution in the Wabash Avenue area of Lakeland.

"Many of these women have been in the Polk County Jail on several prior occasions for prostitution," said Sheriff Grady Judd. "At some point, they will learn that the dollars they make selling themselves on the streets of Wabash we will gladly collect as inmate fees in the Polk County Jail."
Officials say the operation was conducted in response to numerous complaints received from people living in the area.
The seven-hour operation resulted in the following arrests:

4. Melissa Dunn, DOB 12/08/76, Lakeland; Charged with: 2 counts Solicit Another to Commit Prostitution; VOP Solicit Another to Commit Lewd Act
5. Jessica Bernal, DOB 04/18/86, Lakeland; Charged with: Solicit Another to Commit Prostitution; Possession of Cocaine; Possession of Drug Paraphernalia; Battery
