Gibsonton, Florida - Officials hope an autopsy will help them answer a number of questions about a body discovered in a wooded area off Kracker Avenue on Monday afternoon.
"Right now it's a death investigation. It has not been ruled a homicide as of yet," Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Cpl. Chris Baumann said.
A person walking in the area discovered the body around 1:30 p.m. on Memorial Day. Detectives believe the body had been there for some time.
"It's been decomposing for a while that we think. The Medical Examiner's Office will make the ultimate determination on that but it appears to be an adult female."
Preliminary results from an autopsy could be completed on Tuesday.
Neighbors tell 10 Connects several other bodies have been found in the area over the years, including one on Super Bowl Sunday 2003. They say it's a popular dumping spot because it is so secluded and there is little traffic.
