St. Petersburg, Florida -- Police have identified the suspect in today's shooting as Hydra Lacy, Jr. the older brother of a former boxing champ.
"I know Jeff's has got to feel bad. It's hard for anyone to say how Jeff feels right now. We can only speculate and I hope him and his family can get over this," said Ronald "Winky" Wright.
Hydra Lacy, Jr. is the older brother of former boxing champion Jeff Lacy, who is a long-time friend of Wright, who was shocked about today's shooting.

"First, I want to give my condolences to the police officer and his family, to the Lacys, Jeff and the rest of his family. Good people. I'm sorry about the whole situation," Wright said.
Wright says when he heard the news, he called Jeff Lacy to offer his support.
"I just wanted to let him know what was going on and told him to let me know if you need me," the former boxing champ said.
Wright, a native of St. Petersburg, is concerned about the shooting's impact on his hometown.
"It is a bad thing to happen in this community, a bad thing for the St. Pete police and a bad thing for the Lacys," Wright said.
Hydra Lacy, Jr. would periodically drop by the St. Pete Boxing Club to watch his brother train for championship fights and Dan Birmingham, who trained Jeff Lacy, says he was shocked by today's events.
"I just couldn't believe it because life was going well. He had a job and everyone said he was walking a straight path," Birmingham said.
A straight path that took a turn in a different direction.
