Winter Haven, Florida - A mama gator with an attitude has forced the closure of a walking trail in Central Polk County.

Gaye Sharpe with the Polk County Environmental Lands Program says the Marsh Rabbit Run Trail at Circle B Bar Reserve is being closed for the safety of the public.

An female alligator has gotten aggressive with some people using the trail. Sharpe says the gator has babies and was probably trying to protect her young from people biking and walking on the trail.

Polk County Parks and Natural Resources Division staff are monitoring the situation and will reopen the trail when it is determined to be safe for visitors.

Circle B Bar Reserve is a 1,267-acre Polk County and Southwest Florida Water Management District Environmental Land site located on the northwest shores of Lake Hancock in Central Polk County.
