Polk County, Florida - Polk County Sheriff's Office deputies and undercover detectives arrested 108 suspects, including a mother, over the weekend. The arrests were made all across Polk County in an initiative called PROCAP (Proactive Community Attack on Problems).

On the west side of the county, deputies focused their efforts on the areas of Combee Road, Highland City, Crystal Lake, and Willow Oak. 71 arrests were made in those areas.

The deputies on the east side focused on the areas of Inwood, K-Ville, Gordonville, Gordon Heights, Wahneta and Eloise. 37 arrests were made in those areas.

One of the suspects arrested is a mother who lives at 6284 Cornerstone Drive, near Yarborough Lane in Lakeland.

Vivian Oviedo-Martinez, 26, was arrested for cultivation of marijuana after detectives seized and dismantled an extensive marijuana grow house made up of 68 mature 5-foot-tall marijuana plants that they say were located in three separate grow rooms.

Detectives say the living room area contained a full-sized above ground type swimming pool that she was utilizing for the water source and fertilization.

Martinez was also charged with child neglect because her 2 year old daughter was in the home at the time of her arrest. The child has been turned over to the Department of Children and Families.

Several other drug related arrests were made too.

For the sixth time, detectives arrested 27-year-old Krystal Wiggins for possession of marijuana.

She was arrested during a traffic stop in Lakeland and charged with Possession of Cannabis, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Maintaining a Vehicle for Drug Use.

Detectives say Wiggins' passenger, 24-year-old Charles White, took off running while an officer was patting him down. White was caught hiding near a business.

He was arrested for Possession of Cannabis, Tampering with Evidence, Battery on a LEO, and Resisting Arrest. This is his ninth arrest in Polk County.

Detectives also responded to the 2600 block of High Ridge Drive in the High Ridge subdivision on Harrell's Nursery Road in Lakeland in response to tips that a group of people gather every Friday night to smoke marijuana at the dead end of High Ridge Drive.

Detectives say they saw four subjects standing next to two vehicles parked in the roadway and they smelled the odor of marijuana coming from one of the vehicles.

Investigators say Matthew Cruz, a 19-year-old, had a small amount of marijuana and a pipe used for smoking it in his bedroom.

He and three other suspects were arrested and transported to the Polk County Jail.

Detectives patrolling in the Crystal Grove Road Area of Lakeland observed a group of about 10 males sitting in a parking lot having a party.

Detectives say they had an open half gallon of liquor that was sitting on a vehicle in the middle of them.

When they saw the officers, two of them started running. Detectives say they saw one suspect throw a bag of Ecstasy on the ground.

Other detectives say they found a loaded Glock 40 caliber handgun and an extra loaded magazine in a flowerbed near the area where the fleeing suspect ran.

A check of the handgun revealed it was stolen from the Auburndale area. Seven suspects were arrested during this incident.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd says, "One of the philosophies of PROCAP is the person who drives a car with some kind of violation - a broken tag light, swerving, improper tag, aggressive driving - may be the same person who stole something earlier that day, or is in possession of illegal narcotics."

Judd adds, "We routinely conduct initiatives like these so that the community knows there is always a law enforcement presence out there, keeping them safe."
