WATCH: Alligator bites patrol car, holds on

ALACHUA COUNTY, Florida (WTLV) -- A deputy responding to a call of an alligator in a residential neighborhood got up close and personal with the reptile.

According to the Alachua County Sheriff's Office, it happened around 7 p.m. Sunday in Gainesville.

The gator, nearly as long as the deputy's car, did what alligators do when something's coming at them: he used his powerful jaws to clamp down.

The gator grabbed hold of the deputy's front bumper and refused to let go. After a while, someone started recording video, watching as the deputy began to back up with the gator in tow.

Eventually, the alligator let go and was captured by a licensed trapper.

The car sustained some damage to the bumper and grill, but nobody was injured.
