This weekend, authorities in Martin County received a call from someone who spotted what appeared to be an accident scene off 441, approximately 16 miles south of Okeechobee. The Florida Highway Patrol was called in to investigate and discovered Moran's red Nissan Murano.

Detectives with the Highlands County Sheriff's Office were notified about the discovery and also responded to the scene. Human remains found near the accident site and were later identified by the Medical Examiner's Office as being Gayle Moran.

Investigators believe the crash happened around the time of Moran's disappearance.

Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol continue their investigation into what caused the crash and if any other vehicles might have been involved.
