Michael Lohan speaks with reporters after bonding out of the Orient Road Jail. Lohan faces domestic violence charges against his girlfriend.
TAMPA, Florida -- The estranged father of actress Lindsay Lohan has bonded out of jail after an earlier court appearance on domestic violence charges.
Police accused 51-year-old Michael Lohan of battering his girlfriend at her Tampa condo. During Wednesday's court hearing, Judge Walter Heinrich told Lohan to stay away from 28-year-old Kate Major and set bail at $5,000.
Authorities say Lohan went to Major's condo Sunday and that she decided to let him stay even though she had a temporary domestic violence injunction against him in Sarasota County.
As he walked out of the Orient Road Jail Wednesday evening, Lohan professed his innocence to a crowd of reporters, "I did not lay a hand on [Kate Major]. I did not hurt her. If anything, I helped her. She was in a bad situation in Sarasota."
Michael Lohan went on to accuse Major of fabricating the whole thing, "This is the way she makes money. She has me arrested, like she did 3 times before, and she sells the stories; and that's it. It's the truth. I have a dozen witnesses."
As he left the jail, Lohan invited the media to speak with him more at his room at the Tahitian Inn. 10 News took him up on that offer and asked more about troubles with his daughter Lindsey. Lohan told us, "Well, I'll be out in [Los Angeles in] court for her November 2, so we'll see what happens."
However, he ignored questions about his daughter's recent shoot in Playboy magazine.
Lohan says he will remain in the Bay Area for the next few days to deal with legal issues before flying to Los Angeles.
