ST. PETERSBURG, Florida - It may have been the meeting needed to break the stadium stalemate; it also may have been much ado about nothing.

Neither Rays owner Stuart Sternberg nor St. Petersburg mayor Bill Foster chose to comment Tuesday following their first scheduled meeting in over a year.  The meeting, which lasted roughly two hours Tuesday afternoon, took place at Tropicana Field.  The two leaders have been deadlocked on how to address the team's desire for a new, long-term stadium.

Timeline: How the Stadium Saga has played out

Sternberg -- who recently reiterated he will only explore potential new stadium sites in Tampa Bay if he can explore potential sites on both sides of the Bay -- has been handcuffed by St. Petersburg's mayor.

Foster, trying to preserve his city's equity in the stadium deal -- which runs through 2027 -- has denied Sternberg's request to alter the contract.  Legally, the Rays cannot explore new stadium sites outside of St. Petersburg without permission.
