NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police arrested a North Charleston man during a traffic stop Monday after finding heroin hidden inside a baby's diaper.
Jason Montia Nesbitt, 32, is behind bars after police say he was hiding about 87 grams of heroin inside a baby's diaper. An infant was in the car during the traffic stop. The infant shares the suspect's last name, but police have not said if Nesbitt is the baby's father.
According to an North Charleston police incident report, officers pulled over Nesbitt's 2033 Chevy Avalanche after it crossed a double white line on Interstate 26. Nesbitt was driving the car and officers observed a 35-year-old woman in the backseat with an infant.
Police say Nesbitt seemed nervous during the traffic stop so the officer conducted a search of the vehicle with his consent. A K-9 picked up the scent of an illegal odor.
The officer found a pink diaper bag in the backseat with two diapers inside that appeared to be used. In the second diaper, the officer found a large plastic bag folded inside the diaper. Inside, the officer found three smaller plastic bags containing heroin. In all, 87 grams of heroin were seized.
According to police, Nesbitt told the officer that the heroin belonged to him. Police also found $1,075 in his possession. He was placed under arrest and charged with trafficking heroin.
