Clearwater, Florida -- Police say the remains of a woman who died more than 15 years ago were recovered in a Clearwater storage unit.

According to police, the manager of U-Stor Storage told Rebecca Ann Fancher -- the woman who rented the unit -- that she was behind on payments and if she didn't pay, the items inside it would be auctioned off.

Manager Kevin McKeon says Fancher responded by telling him her dead grandmother was being kept inside the storage unit.

Police recovered the skeletal remains inside a blue casket on Thursday. The Tampa Bay Times reports Fancher informed police that her mother told her about the remains as she was on her deathbed last year.

Police recovered the death certificate for the grandmother, Ann Bunch, who died in 1995.

Medical examiners told police the body had been properly processed for burial, but it was unclear why the casket was in the storage unit. Investigators are working to confirm that the body is indeed Bunch's.

Police say they don't believe she died under suspicious circumstances and that they do not expect to file charges against the granddaughter.
