St. Petersburg, Florida -- The bang-bang-bang of three gunshots sent a panic through a packed Downtown St. Pete night club Wednesday, leaving two people shot.
Tuesday night, a crowd of hundreds had filled Scene night club at 211 3rd St. S.
Just after 2 a.m. Wednesday, as folks inside the club danced, St. Petersburg Police say someone opened fire.
Clubgoers said the gunshots came quickly, one after the other. Out of the chaos that followed, police say it became clear two people had been shot. One of the victims was hit by two bullets.
Officers at the scene said it appeared none of injuries would be life-threatening. Both victims were driven the short distance to Bayfront Medical Center for treatment.
The unidentified shooter or shooters managed to get out of the club, avoiding security and police, when the people in the building emptied out onto the street.
A club staff member said they are working with police to figure out who fired the shots and why.
A total of 34 people have been hurt or killed in night club shootings in the Tampa Bay area in the past five months.
The shooting at Scene is the fourth separate incident, and it appears to be the first where no one was seriously hurt.
Other recent shootings include one in September in Palmetto at Club Elite, and two in the Ybor City district of Tampa -- an October shooting at Club Empire and a November shooting at Club Manilla.
Radio host Bubba the Love Sponge Clem is a part owner of Scene and has talked about the night club on his morning radio show.
Clem has a relationship with 10 News through his "Bring it on Bubba" segment that airs during 10 News at 11.
The three-story club is promoted as an "upscale, premium" experience. It opened in 2010 in Downtown St. Petersburg's old American Stage building.
