Tampa, FL -- A 15-year-old girl is in critical condition at a Tampa hospital Thursday night after detectives say she was accidentally shot in the chest at her home.
According to the sheriff's office, the shooting happened around 8:40 p.m. in a downstairs apartment at the Royal Oaks apartment complex on Solano Court in Town N' Country.
Detectives say Nailin Rodriguez was playing with the gun in the a bedroom and when her mother's boyfriend tried to get the gun away from her when it went off shooting her in the chest.
She was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital where she is in critical condition, but is expected to survive.
It is unknown at this time where the gun came from. Nailin's mother and two other children were in the home at the time.
