INDIAN ROCKS BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A Florida man is dead after being ejected from a personal watercraft that hit an object in the water.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says Victor Vasquez and Robert Turnbull were riding the watercraft in the Intracoastal Waterway, south of Clearwater, Saturday at about 8:30 p.m. The vessel reportedly hit an object, ejecting both men into the water.
Turnbull sustained minor injuries but Vasquez was left unconscious. Authorities say Turnbull pulled him from the water and brought him ashore.
Vasquez, of Indian Rocks Beach, could not be resuscitated.
Investigators say both men were wearing lifejackets, but note that operating a personal watercraft is prohibited between half an hour after sunset and half an hour before sunrise.
