Tampa, Florida -- Tampa Police say the man hit by a train Tuesday morning has died from his injuries.
Lt. Ronald McMullen says the pedestrian, identified as 71-year-old Luis Alberto Romo, was crossing the train tracks when he dropped something. The CSX train struck the man as he bent over to pick it up.
"He didn't realize the danger," Lt. McMullen says. "The train was barreling down the tracks, and he probably thought it was going a lot slower than it truly was."

A witness offered a different account of events, saying he knew the victim and described him as "disturbed" and homeless. Ricky Rogers says the man deliberately stood in front of the train in an apparent suicide attempt.
Romo was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he later died.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Busch Boulevard and Florida Avenue. All lanes of traffic have reopened.
Tampa Police along with CSX are continuing their investigation.
