Pensacola, FL (CNN) - An Army staff sergeant has been reunited with his best friend from Afghanistan.
Wanting to identify himself only as Nick B, he came across the Afghan herding dog while on patrol. The dog he calls Bodhi, was tied up and covered in mud. His ears and part of his tail had been cut off. Nick traded packs of cigarettes for the dog.
"They were going to use him for entertainment to fight other dogs. You could just tell he hadn't been fed properly. He was really skinny and malnourished. When I saw that, it just broke my heart. I knew I had to get this dog out of here."
"I've missed him so much and just seeing his face and seeing how happy he was to see me was just a great feeling."
After weeks of being apart, Bodhi was flown into Pensacola Saturday.
With the help of the Puppy Rescue Mission, he was reunited with Nick.
