Congressman Young's response: "Probably not. How about getting a job?"
The man responds by saying he has a job that earns him $8.50 an hour.
"Well, why do you want that benefit?" Young asks him, before again saying, "Get a job."
The brief exchange between the two is now making waves online, with many bloggers and websites critical of the Congressman's remarks.
Democrat Jessica Ehrlich, who is running against Young in the November elections, tells the Huffington Post, "His comments are a stark reminder of the sad fact that he lost touch with middle class folks years ago."
Congressman Young has represented Florida's 10th district, which makes up most of Pinellas County, since he was first elected in 1971.
