ORLANDO, Florida (WKMG) -- A 7-year-old autistic boy who ran into an Orlando street was struck and killed by three cars in a hit-and-run crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The crash happened about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday at Silver Star Road and Orlando Drive West.
FHP troopers said the boy was running from a nearby apartment complex when he was hit. The boy was not in a crosswalk, and it's not known why he was running across the street.
The child was struck by one vehicle and then run over by two more vehicles, according to troopers.
FHP spokeswoman Kim Montes said the first vehicle that hit the boy fled the scene. Two other cars stayed at the scene.
The boy, whose name has not been released, was taken to a local hospital, where he died.
Montes says the crash remains under investigation. Charges are pending.
