OLDSMAR, Florida - Water has been fully restored to Oldsmar residents after a pipe leak.

About 5,500 homes and businesses in Oldsmar had low water pressure or no water at all over the weekend.

Crews found the leak in an 8" pipe in the vicinity of 580 Corporate Center on Sunday. Officials said all the recent rain made it hard to determine where the leak was coming from, because the ground was so saturated.

Meanwhile, a number of restaurants had to shut down because they had no water, such as Flamestone along Tampa Road. The few employees there Saturday spent hours on the phone canceling 250 dinner reservations.

General Manager Rick Spinner said the restaurant will probably lose more than $20,000 total. "It's hard. It's hard for the staff. I've had to send staff home. For lunch, and now for dinner. So it's unfortunate that we're closed," said Spinner. "With the economy, especially today, it's hard for us to turn away business."

Most of the businesses in that shopping plaza were forced to shut down because of the water situation.

Several homeowners along Arlington Avenue said some of their water pressure came back on Saturday, but the day was very frustrating. "It was tough today. I actually went up to Tarpon Springs to use my parents' facilities up there," said Jon Sipera.

A boil water notice remains in effect pending water quality testing. Customers can call (813) 749-1100 for updates.
