DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A 3-year-old North Texas child has died after being left inside a daycare van.
The little boy, Benjamin Price, was left in a van operated by Little T's Tiny Tots Daycare.
The child was unresponsive at the daycare location, in the 2200 block of S. Buckner in Dallas, and was taken to Baylor Hospital in critical condition. He was declared dead at the hospital.
According to the Price family, the children at the daycare went on a field trip, to a movie theater earlier in the day.
Benjamin's grandmother, Louria Washington, told CBS 11 News that her make it back into the van for the return trip fine.
"He was asleep and they just left him on the bus," she said.
It isn't known what time the children arrived back at the daycare center or how long little Benjamin was left unattended in the van.
Officials with Child Protective Services say childcare licensing will be investigating.
According to CPS spokeswoman Marissa Gonzales, over the past two years the state has found 23 violations at the daycare, which is comparable to other daycare centers.
Washington said she knows the owner of the daycare and has never had any problems there before. Now the grandmother is just left with memories.
"We just appreciate and thank God for the three years, very happy years. He brought joy to the family."
