Street pole banners started going up around the Tampa Bay Times Forum this week. Downtown Tampa, Clearwater, and St. Petersburg will get the banners over the next week.

"We want people to know that when you are in town, when you show up at the airport whether it's Clearwater/St Petersburg or Tampa...you're here for the RNC," said ken Jones, Host Committee President and CEO.

The Presence Program features banners of rich, deep hues of blue and red will be complete by August 17.

The banners also feature stars, ribbons and the Sabal Palm, Florida's native palm tree.

Businesses and organizations can purchase banners and flags to display. Prices range from $4.17 for a window cling to $108 for the largest banner. Posters are selling for $25 and a flag is going for $49.

The banners were designed, printed and installed by local businesses.

HIllsborough County Commissioner Ken Hagan says this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the area to promote itself which is why the county agreed to put up, up to $1 million in Tourist Development funds to promote the area.

Pinellas County put up $600,000. TECO and AT&T are sponsors.

The money is going toward the banners and billboards and in flight magazine articles featuring the Tampa Bay area on Southwest and United Airlines flights.

"We have the short term economic benefits we've all heard as far as 75,000 room nights, 3,000 jobs, $170 million in direct spending, $100 million in wages, but you have the long term, indirect economic impact which will likely be even larger than that," said Commissioner Hagan.
