Clearwater, Florida -- Women who are struggling to get pregnant and take in vitro fertilization at a young age may be putting themselves at higher risk for breast cancer.

Researchers in Australia found women undergoing IVF treatment tend to have higher levels of the estrogen hormone, which tends to fuel breast cancer.

The study of 21,000 women couldn't determine whether IVF or other factors explained the breast cancer risk but it is something to talk about with your doctor if you're undergoing treatment.

10 News asked Dr. Peter Blumencranz to weigh in on the study.
