UPDATE: Tampa police say they've located the owner of a car abandoned on the Gandy Bridge after an accident last night.

Police found 55-year-old Charles McFadden at his home. McFadden suffered minor injuries in the crash and told authorities he decided to walk home, leaving his car at the crash scene.

The investigation is ongoing.

TAMPA, Florida - Crews are looking for a driver who may have ended up in the water after crashing along the eastbound side of the Gandy Bridge.

Tampa Fire Rescue said they responded to a crash at around 8:15 p.m. and found a car with front end damage, but with no one inside. As a precaution, they searched the surrounding waterway with two boats, but did not find anyone.

FWC crews and the Coast Guard are still searching. Tampa Police are gearing up to use one of their boats with SONAR to try to find the driver, if he is in the water.

According to authorities, witnesses did see the driver get out of the car, but they don't know what happened after that. They said officials did go to the driver's house and did not find him. His family also doesn't know where he is.

Tampa Police said, at this point, this is a recovery operation. They will continue searching for at least the next several hours.
