Tampa, Florida - Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus on Monday unveiled the stage  where Mitt Romney will officially accept his party's nomination.

The stage, which according to the New York Times cost $2.5-million to build, features 13 giant LED screens.

"Our convention will connect with people across America and around the world, right here from this stage, through speakers and these incredible screens behind me," Priebus said before the screens were turned on.

Inspired by architect Frank Lloyd Wright, the stage or podium area for the GOP convention took a year and a half to design and build. The largest LED video screen is roughly 29-feet by 12-feet. The main stage will also be flanked by side LED screens, to help those with obstructed views see what's happening on the stage.

"I think if you take a look at this as a play... these screens become another character in the play that will help tell the story," Romney Senior Advisor Russ Schriefer told reporters after the unveiling.

The screens can be linked together for a panoramic view or can each show different pictures at the same time. Schriefer says the hope is the screens will help tell more compelling stories and will be used to enhance the subjects speakers discuss during the convention.

"So if we want it to be a factory floor, it can be a factory floor. If we want it to become a farm, it can become a farm. It's just a great set that allows us to have a backdrop that supports our speakers all through the week."

In addition to the main stage, it was revealed Monday that a National Debt clock has been installed inside the Times Forum. It'll likely be referenced by several speakers and be a theme at the convention.

It was also announced Monday that two side stages will flank that main stage and be used by musical acts between speakers.

Officials say it took a total of 30,000 man hours to design and built the main stage and the podium area has a total of 2,402 square feet of LED screens. For comparison, a 40-inch TV at home covers about 6.3 square feet.

The Republican National Convention begins a week from today. More than 50,000 delegates, media and others - such as demonstrators - are expected to descend on Tampa.
