Lakeland, Florida -- "This was a big week for us," Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney told a crowd of hundreds who gathered at Lakeland-Linder Regional Airport to bid him farewell from Tampa Bay.

The farewell rally marked the end of a convention week which allowed voters to learn more about the man and his plans for the country's future.

Romney was joined on stage by his running mate, U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan and their wives. The candidates' two campaign planes, which were unveiled today, were parked in the background.

The crowd battled the sun, heat and humidity to hear the duo speak, but a few people never got the chance, too overwhelmed by the heat of the day.

Those who did hear him speak, though, say they were inspired.

"It's time to move on and give new policies, new ideas and Governor Romney a chance," said one attendee.

The message from Romney's convention speech was echoed at Lakeland- Linder Airport, "jobs and the economy."

"I want to make sure that every person in this country who wants a job can find one. I want to make sure that every retiree knows their retirement is secure, that Medicare and Social Security will be there," Romney told a cheering crowd.

He kept focused on his five point plan which he says will get the country back on track.

Romney's quotes:

  • "One: We're going to get America energy independent by using our own oil, coal, gas, nuclear..."
  • "Two: We're going to open up trade..."
  • "Three: We're going to make sure the people who need work get the skills they need to succeed."
  • "Four: We're going to get America on track to have a balanced budget by cutting the deficit..."
  • "Five: We're going to champion small business..."
  • "We're going to repeal and replace Obamacare with something that works to hold down the costs of healthcare...."

While most people who came out to the victory rally were supporters, a small group of protesters tried to interrupt Romney, but their chanting was overcome by the crowd chanting "USA, USA!" as the protesters were escorted away.

The Republican nominees took off from Tampa Bay in their separate planes before noon. They're heading to the battleground states of Virginia, Ohio and back to Florida this weekend.

Next week, it will be Obama's turn to convince Americans that his plan is the right option during his convention in Charlotte, North Carolina.
