COLUMBIA COUNTY, Florida (WTLV) -- A man who attacked his girlfriend and another man with a baseball bat Thursday night set himself on fire after the attack.
Robert Drew Manson, 49, was taken to Shands Gainesville to be treated for his injuries, according to a release from Columbia County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Sgt. Ed Seifert.
Manson's current condition is not known "due to health care privacy regulations," the release said. Once Manson is released from the hospital, he will be booked into the Columbia County detention facility on two counts of aggravated battery.
Police first found Manson on fire in the front yard of a home on SE Margaret Street on Thursday around 11:15 p.m. They were able to put out the flames in his hair and clothes by placing him on the ground.
Prior to setting himself on fire, Manson attacked his girlfriend with a bat, possibly breaking her arm. He then hit another man with the bat, hitting his face and neck. The attack occurred "for unknown reasons," the release said.
The bat, a lighter and lighter fluid were found at the home. The man and the woman who were attacked were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
