BARTOW, Florida - Michael Butler was the principal at Summerlin Academy, an ROTC magnet program located on the campus of Bartow High School. He was at the school since it started in 2006 until Monday, when he was reassigned.

At issue is an anonymous letter to the school board that said Butler was misrepresenting himself and that he really didn't earn some of the badges he wore on his school uniform.

Polk school officials investigated the claim and sent 10 News this statement: "While no crime has been committed, there have been questions relative to his military experience. Therefore, effective (today)...Mr. Butler will assume the assistant principal position at Ridge Career Center."

The school district also said Butler was popular, and that students at Summerlin had really grown under his leadership. But they say, despite that, he hasn't been able to prove some of his military qualifications regarding badges he wore, so they not only transferred him, they also demoted him.

On Monday, Butler started his new job in Winter Haven as an assistant principal at Ridge Career Center, 22 miles away from the Bartow school he once worked at.
