TAMPA, Florida -- A Tampa man is dead after firefighters and police failed to pull him from his burning car after a crash.

According to the Tampa Police Department, 53-year-old Robert Ormsby crashed his car in the 3400 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and continued east, where his car left the road and struck a parked delivery truck.

When officers arrived at the scene, they say Ormsby's vehicle was engulfed in flames. The officers attempted to rescue the man using fire extinguishers and 5 gallon buckets. A Tampa Fire rescue crew also responded to the scene, but their attempts to rescue Ormsby were unsuccessful.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
