FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) - More than 2,000 people crowded into a community center to see Vice President Joe Biden talk about Medicare, the federal deficit and tax cuts for the wealthy.

Saturday's campaign stop was part of Biden's two day swing through Florida.

Biden spent most of his speech discussing Medicare, which played to the older crowd. He said that he and President Barack Obama have strengthened the Medicare trust fund and exceeded its life until 2024.

He also hammered GOP candidate Mitt Romney for a recent caught-on-video comment dismissing the 47 percent of Americans who don't pay federal income tax as victims who won't take responsibility for their lives.

Biden said he doesn't recognize the country they're talking about when they talk about "the culture of dependency."
