Temple Terrace, Florida -- Temple Terrace Police have charged a man with the attempted murder of a Kmart loss prevention agent during a shoplifting incident on September 28.
Police say a man and a woman attacked a loss prevention agent who tried to stop them from stealing a 50-inch flat-screen TV and an Angry Birds alarm clock Friday evening.
The loss prevention officer approached couple, identified as 32-year-old Louis Murray and 23-year-old Shadaveya Jones, outside the store on Busch Boulevard after they passed all points of sale with the items through the Garden Center.
When the agent asked them to go back inside, a verbal argument ensued which became physical when Murray punched the agent in the neck. Murray then told Jones to "get in the car and run us over." Police say Jones got into a Buick LaSabre, drove toward them and hit the agent in the foot.
At that time, another loss prevention agent came out and saw Murray was armed with a knife. As he tried to stab to first agent in the neck, the second agent was able to wrestle the knife away. Meanwhile, Jones was punching the agents while hanging out of the passenger window of the car.
Murray and Jones were arrested at the store. Neither of the agents were injured.
Murray was charged with Attempted Felony Murder, Attempted Grand Theft, Battery and Resisting a Retail Merchant.
Jones was charged with Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Assault, Simple Battery and Resisting a Retail Merchant.
