ARMY - The Black Knights earned their first victory of the season with a 34-31 triumph over Boston College on Saturday. Trent Steelman scored the game-winner on a 29-yard run with 45 seconds remaining. It was the third touchdown of the day for Steelman, who carried 22 times for 141 yards. Teammate Raymond Maples racked up a career-high 184 yards on 34 carries and Larry Dixon finished with 128 rushing yards and a TD, helping Army snap a five-game slide to BC. The defense had some trouble with Eagles' running back Andre Williams, who racked up 191 yards and two TDs on the ground. Still, the end result was all that mattered for the Black Knights, whose option game was in top form. They churned out 27 first downs, 516 yards (6.5 ypc) and four TDs on the ground and currently lead the nation in rushing offense. Army, now 1-4, will host Kent State to complete a three-game homestand.

BYU - The Cougars improved to 4-2 following Friday night's 6-3 win over Utah State. In their last three games, the Cougars have scored 6, 47, and 6 points. Fortunately, they have allowed only 7, 0, and 3 points in those same games. At the moment, BYU ranks third nationally in scoring defense (8.9 ppg) and is fifth in total defense (229.3 ypg). J.D. Falslev's touchdown catch late in the second quarter was the only touchdown of the game on Friday night, and it proved to be the game-winner. Taysom Hill passed for 235 yards and a score along with an interception on 24- of-36 passing for the Cougars (4-2), who have won their past two games. Hill also had 19 carries for 80 yards, Jamaal Williams added 71 yards on 17 carries and Cody Hoffman caught eight passes for 114 yards. A blocked field goal and a missed fourth-down conversion deep in Aggies' territory kept BYU from putting more points on the board. The offense will need to pick it up this Saturday when Oregon State comes to town.

NAVY - The Midshipmen claimed a 28-21 win at Air Force in overtime to move to 2-3 on the season. Navy scored the game-winner on right guard's Jake Zuzek's fumble recovery in the end zone. Coming off their first shutout loss in six years, the Midshipmen (2-3) were able to snap a two-game slide to Air Force. It marked the second straight year these two teams went to overtime, as Air Force beat Navy in a wild 35-34 final last season in Annapolis. Trey Miller ran for 110 yards in the victory, although it was Zuzek playing the role of hero when he jumped on a fumbled center exchange in the end zone. The defense did have some trouble with Falcons running back Cody Getz, the nation's leading rusher, who rumbled for 204 yards and a touchdown. Fortunately for the Midshipmen, they got some help from Air Force kicker Parker Herrington, who missed a 27-yard field goal earlier in the game and had a chance to win it at the end of regulation. However, Herrington's 51-yard attempt hooked left, his fifth missed field goal in six tries this season. The Mids will try to stay in the win column when they visit Central Michigan on Friday.

NOTRE DAME - Coming off a bye week, the Fighting Irish (5-0) picked up right where they left off by dismantling Miami, 41-3. With the win, Notre Dame is now ranked seventh in the nation and positioned well in the BCS picture. The Fighting Irish have won the first five games of the season for the first time since beginning the 2002 campaign 8-0. They have not allowed a touchdown over the last 12 quarters of action and have not trailed at any point this season. Cierre Wood ran for 118 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries, while George Atkinson III finished with 123 yards and a TD on just 10 carries for the Irish. Cam McDaniel and Theo Riddick each added a rushing touchdown, as the Irish racked up 376 yards on the ground. Everett Golson was benched to start the game due to a violation of team rules, but entered in the first quarter following a gift penalty from the Hurricanes. He threw for 186 yards on 17- of-22 passing and ran for 51 yards on six carries as Notre Dame remained unbeaten at Soldier Field in program history with a 10-0-2 record. Up next, Notre Dame will host No. 17 Stanford on Saturday afternoon.
