Palm Harbor, Florida -- A man seen speeding through two cities was killed after he crashed his motorcycle in Palm Harbor Sunday night.

Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies say 27-year-old Daniel Akins was seen speeding and weaving in and out of traffic in Oldsmar while heading west on US Hwy 19. Akins fled from a patrol deputy who attempted to pull him over but chose not to pursue him.

Akins, of Seffner, was last seen heading north on Belcher Road near Nebraska Avenue at a high rate of speed. Investigators say after he passed Alderman Road, Akins failed to negotiate a curve in the road just south of Grovewood Boulevard and crashed.

He was taken to Bayfront Medical Center where he later died of his injuries just after midnight, Monday, Oct. 8.

Investigators say alcohol may be a factor in the crash and are awaiting toxicology results.
