Palm Bay, FL (Florida Today) -- A 19-year-old is recovering today with a broken arm and leg along with multiple cuts after Palm Bay police said he attempted to jump over a moving car in an attempt to film a video to send football recruiters.
Police said Bladimir Barreto was conscious as he was airlifted to Holmes Regional Medical Center's trauma center in Melbourne for treatment of his injuries.
"He's lucky that it wasn't worse than what it was," said Yvonne Martinez, spokeswoman for the Palm Bay Police Department, the agency investigating the stunt gone wrong.
"The motive was apparently to video something to show to college recruiters for football."
The graphic video was shot about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday by the victim's brother as Barreto stood in the middle of a roadway near Knecht Park. The video then shows a shirtless Barreto racing headlong into an oncoming Honda Accord driven by his 17-year-old brother.
The car can be seen accelerating before it clips Barreto during his attempt at jumping, the video shows.
Barreto then spins several times in mid-air and slams into the ground, the video shows.
Officer Andrew Pidgeon arrived at the scene minutes later.
"One of the brothers went around to the house and got his mother. She was a wreck and was there holding her son," Pidgeon said.
Pidgeon said charges are pending against the 17-year-old brother, adding that the teen did not have a valid license.
"He could also face reckless driving," Pidgeon said.
