ST PETERSBURG, FL - Dozens of people gathered Thursday night for a Celebration of Life Service for a Bay Area young woman, killed in action. U.S. Army Spc., Brittany Gordon recently died while serving in Afghanistan. She is the daughter of Assistant Chief of Police in St. Pete, Cedric Gordon.

Loved ones packed Wireman Chapel at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg for the memorial, where they shared stories about the 24-year-old.

Brittany was described as "intelligent, talented, and brave." They called her "a beautiful person, inside and out."

"It's very, very hard," said Brittany's best friend, Barbara Butler. "Just two days before she passed she said, I see the light. I said you better see the light, you're coming home. Get yourself home. And little did we know, it was the other light."

Brittany played basketball at St. Petersburg High School all four years she was there. The school said they plan on retiring her jersey. She was described as the perfect example of a student athlete.

"When they walk through the gymnasium, they'll know that she served her country and she represented the student athlete," said varsity basketball coach, Bonnie Thompson.

Brittany's wake service is set for Friday. Her funeral is scheduled for Saturday.
