Orlando, Florida -- President Obama canceled a campaign rally in Orlando Monday to return to Washington.
"Due to deteriorating weather conditions in the Washington area, the President will not attend today's campaign event in Orlando," said White House Press Secretary Jay Carney. "The President will return to the White House to monitor the preparations for and early response to Hurricane Sandy."
Four critical election states are affected by the storm: North Carolina, Virginia, Ohio and New Hampshire.
Obama originally planned to campaign alongside former President Bill Clinton in Orlando.
Clinton still attended the rally and campaigned on Obama's behalf.
