JACKSONVILLE, Florida (WTLV) -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office arrested the mother in the case of a baby who was abandoned outside of a vacant apartment unit last week.

15-year-old Amber Aundriana Collins was arrested for Child Neglect, which is a second degree felony, according to JSO.

Police responded to the Huntington Apartmentson on the afternoon of October 24. There they found the baby wrapped only in a towel.

The baby was found outside unit 1112, which had been vacant since July. Investigators say the child was only a few hours old when she was found. She was taken to the hospital and is said to now be doing well.

On Tuesday, JSO received a call from Collins' mother, who stated that she thought her daughter had given birth to the baby. Collins on Wednesday admitted to police that she left the baby at the vacant apartment.

Cristessa Myers and her two young sons initially found the infant on the second floor of their apartment complex. Her 7-year-old first spotted the baby girl.

According to Florida's Safe Haven Law, a child 7 days old or younger can be left at a fire station, emergency medical services station or hospital without any recourse.
