Abby, the guide dog who fell victim to the hit and run crash
Tampa, FL -- 59-year-old Terry Ellrick is absolutely devastated after someone hit his guide dog and then took off.
It happened last Friday in St. Petersburg near Terry's home at the intersection of 5th Avenue North and 29th Street.
Terry is legally blind and he's alone without his 2-year-old guide dog Abbey.
Through sobs, Ellrick told 10 News his message for the person responsible.
"I just want them to have a merry Christmas and a happy Thanksgiving. That's what I want because I can't, and she can't have her turkey either. So I hope it goes down good for them."
The BluePearl Vet Hospital in Tampa performed her surgery on Wednesday. Doctors say Abbey has about a 50 percent chance of surviving.
On Thursday morning, BluePearl said they received enough donations from the community to fully cover all of the care needed for Abbey.
"If people would still like to donate money to help families who may not be able to afford specialty or emergency life saving veterinary care for their pets, BluePearl Veterinary Partners works closely with Frankie's Friends charitable pet foundation," said BluePearl spokesman James Judge. "We encourage them to visit frankiesfriends.com or feel free to call BluePearl Veterinary Partners to get more information about Frankie's Friends at 813-933-8944."
