Police say this person, now believed to be 16-year-old Larry Donnell Brown, was seen riding a bicycle near the murder scene when Michael Valentin was shot and killed.
ATM robbery suspect caught on surveillance cameras as he robs 22-year-old Dwayne Jenkins at the Bank of America off of Fowler.
TAMPA, Florida - Tampa police have arrested the person they said shot and killed a CIS security officer on Thanksgiving Eve.
Police have 16-year-old Larry Donell Brown in custody. He is charged with First Degree Murder in the death of Michael Valentin.
Police said Brown is also linked to two ATM robberies that happened this month off Fowler. He is being charged with Attempted Armed Robbery, Armed Robbery (2 counts), Grand Theft of a Firearm, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
Brown was the person seen on a bike in surveillance video that Tampa Police released last week. He was considered a person who police wanted to talk to.
Police said they zoned in on Brown 48 hours ago because of an open stolen gun case. He was arrested Tuesday night in that case. Authorities believe attempted robbery was the motive behind Valentin's death. They added the security officer was shot once in the upper body. It happened at the Grande Oaks Apartments off East Hanna Avenue one week ago.
According to authorities, Brown has a "very active" criminal record, which includes 12 felony convictions.
The arrest comes just hours after Valentin's employer, Critical Intervention Services, held a community event at Grande Oaks. They had food and games for the residents there. Officials said the goal was to help generate tips and to let residents know that they are safe.
Residents and officers also joined in a moment of silence to honor Valentin and built a small memorial for him.
His funeral is set for Friday morning in New Tampa.
