Saint Petersburg, FL-- A young man lost his life early Friday morning after he reportedly refused to listen to a police officer's warning to "get to a position of safety."

According to reports, a Tampa Police officer spotted 20-year-old John Vincent Sullo walking in the middle of 4th St. N around 1:30 a.m., and told him to move out of the road to avoid getting hit by a car.

When Sullo refused to obey and continued walking in the southbound lanes, reports say the TPD officer notified a St. Petersburg officer of the hazard.

As St. Pete officers were arriving to the scene to handle the situation, a 2007 Infinity driven by 41-year-old Jason Hawkins struck Sullo, causing him grave injuries.

Reports say the officers performed CPR until paramedics arrived. They transported him to Bayfront Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead just before 2:15 a.m.

Reports say Hawkins, the driver of the vehicle, has not been charged.
