A university spokesperson announced Sunday afternoon that USF has fired head football coach Skip Holtz after three seasons with the Bulls. The firing comes just one day after USF lost to Pitt, 27-3, completing the worst season in school history.
The announcement was made official at a 4 p.m. press conference.
Holtz led USF to a bowl game in his first season but followed that up with back-to-back losing seasons for the first time in school history. The Bulls lost 12 of their last 14 Big East Conference games and finished the 2012 season 3-9.
Fans booed Holtz mercilessly during the fourth quarter of Saturday night's blowout loss at home. Holtz was the second coach in school history. He took over for Jim Leavitt in 2010.
Sources tell 10 News that Holtz is the only coach at the university losing his job.
