SEFFNER, Florida - Sunday marked the 19th year for the annual Cookson Hills Toy Run, where hundreds of bikers and regular every day people from the community bring toys to personally donate to needy children who live in eastern Hillsborough County.
Event co-founder Bill Brown says, "We live in the United States, the greatest country in the world, and to see these kids smiling and changing some kids lives -- there's nothing better."
Brown's wife, Sheri, is also a co-founder of the event. Despite having bronchitis, she was at the toy run and says the turnout for needy children was lower this year. She says she invited about 500 children again this year.
Britney Akers, a mother who brought her young child to the event to receive toys, says, "It means a lot. It means the world. Without this, they wouldn't have anything, so it means the world to us."
Marcus Larock, a father who also brought his children, says, "It means everything. They were going to have such a small Christmas this year ... now they're gonna have a lot more. Thank you so much."
